Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival, Kigali city tour and transfer to Akagera National Park

Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport, you will be met by our driver guide. He will take you through what you are to expect while on your 5 Rwanda days hot-air balloon and gorilla trekking safari. He will later take you on a Kigali city tour and lunch will be en route. You will visit a ton of places like the genocide memorial hall, Kigali Arena, the beautiful and clean streets, and markets among others. In the afternoon you will embark on a journey to Akagera National Park. While on your journey to the park, you will have scenic views of the countryside of Rwanda. By the time it clocks evening, you will be already at your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Hot-air balloon ride and afternoon boat cruise

In the morning after your delicious breakfast, you will take on a hot-air balloon ride around the savannah plains of the park. Akagera National Park is the only savannah national park in the country. It is home to the big five animals of the animal kingdom. This hot-air balloon ride in the park will give you a chance to cover a large distance of the park. You will come close to the animals and watch them from an aerial view as they go by their day. An aerial view of the park will give you a stunning picture. After your lunch, you will embark on a boat cruise experience on Lake Ihema. This lake is located in the southern part of the park and it is home to several aquatic species including hippos and crocodiles. The shores of the lake usually host several other wildlife and bird species. Later in the evening after the exploration of the lake, you will return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park and cultural tour

Early in the morning after your breakfast, you will check out of your lodge and hit the road to Volcanoes National Park. You will enjoy the beautiful terrain of the area and understand why Rwanda is referred to as the land of a thousand hills. You will arrive at the park and check into your lodge just in time for lunch. In the afternoon, you will embark on a cultural tour of the ibyi’wacu cultural village. You will be met will thunderous drum sounds and exciting traditional dances and songs. You will explore in detail the different values, norms, briefs, and cultures of the people of Rwanda. Interacting with the elders of the cultural village will expose you to the knowledge and history of their land. In the evening you will return to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 4: Gorilla trekking, Dian Fossey hike, and transfer to Nyungwe National Park

After your delicious early morning breakfast, you will be driven to the park offices for a pre-trekking briefing. This is done to elaborate the rules and regulations of mountain gorilla trekking. These rules and regulations are meant to protect and conserve the endangered mountain gorillas as well as protect you. You will then be guided through the forests by a professional guide ranger to the habitat of these primates. The trekking journey is quite challenging but adventurous as you will encounter other primates and bird species on your way. After the allocation of the mountain gorillas, you will be given an hour will their presence in their natural habitats. You will later take on a Dian Fossey hike in the park. This hike takes you straight to the grave of Dian Fossey a renowned conservationist. She was killed in 1985 and buried at Karisoke Research Center. You will visit the research center and observe the works that Dian Fossey did since she is the founder of the research center. After that, you will head back to your lodge for lunch and check out. In the afternoon, you will be transferred to Nyungwe National Park. This is a 5-hour journey that will take you through the countryside of Rwanda. By evening you will be at your lodge in the park just in time for your dinner and overnight.

Day 5: Chimpanzee tracking, canopy walk and Departure

On the final day of your 5 days on Rwanda hot-air balloon and gorilla trekking safari, you will be served a delicious early morning breakfast. At the park offices, you will be taken through a short pre-tracking briefing. After the briefing, you will venture out into the forests in search of the chimpanzees with the help of a professional ranger. Upon their allocation, you will spend one quality hour with them in their habitats. You will head to the canopy trail above the park for a canopy walk. You will have aerial views of the park landscapes and take some beautiful photos for memories. Afterward, you will have lunch at your lodge and check out. Our driver guide will transfer you to Kigali International Airport for your departure flight back home.
