10 Days Akagera Wildlife Safari

Overview

Located in the Eastern side of Rwanda close to the border of Tanzania, Akagera national park covers an area of about 2500 square kilometers. The park was gazetted in 1934 by the Belgian government and has seen tremendous development since then. It is a home to quite a variety of animal and bird species such as buffaloes, elephants, giraffes, antelopes, etc. Resident birds include among others, giant Kingfisher, papyrus gonolek, herons and grey-crowned cranes. It is here that you can have an opportunity to see all the big five animals (Rhinoceros, buffaloes, lions, leopards and elephants).

The three day safari to Akagera national park starts with pick up from Kigali city, transfer to Akagera national park, spending a night, morning game drive, afternoon boat cruise and return to Kigali for departure on the third day.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Transfer from Kigali to Akagera national park

Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport, you will meet our guide / driver who will lead you on the two and a half hour drive to Akagera national park – The beauty of Rwanda. You will drive through the rolling hills, villages, savannah plains, green vegetation, to mention but a few.

Upon arrival check into the lodge of your choice for relaxation, dinner and spend a night.

Day 2: Morning game drive and afternoon boat cruise

After an early morning breakfast, you will embark on a morning game drive that will take you into the deeper parts of the park. It is during the game drive that you get an opportunity of seeing quite a number of animals such as lions, rhinoceros, hippopotamuses, antelopes, impalas, elephants, to mention but a few.

You will also see a number birds in the park such as black-headed gonolek, shoebill stock, giant Kingfisher, papyrus Gonolek, Herons, grey-crowned crane, etc.

Return to your lodge for lunch

In the afternoon drive to Lake Ihema for an amazing boat cruise experience. It will introduce you to other wonders of the parks such as aquatic animals like crocodiles and water birds such as African eagle and Marabou stork.

Return to the lodge in the later ours of the day for relaxation, dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Transfer to Kigali, city tour and departure

This is the last day of your Akagera three-day trip. You will have a lip-smirking breakfast before starting your journey back to Kigali city.

Upon arrival in the city, depending on the time you have, you can have a tour around the city and get exciting views of the Genocide memorial, local markets, etc. before driving to Kigali international airport for departure. Hence the end of the three- day Akagera safari – Rwanda.
