4 Days Gorilla Habituation and Queen Elizabeth Safari

4 days Gorilla SafarisSafaris Tailor-made

4 Days Gorilla Habituation and Queen Elizabeth Safari combines Uganda’s unique extended gorilla experience with wildlife viewing in Queen Elizabeth National Park. It is a practical short safari for travelers who want to experience both mountain gorillas and Uganda’s classic savanna wildlife without committing to a much longer itinerary.

The journey takes you through southwestern Uganda, combining the forests of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park with the wildlife-rich plains and waterways of Queen Elizabeth National Park.

The highlight is the Gorilla Habituation Experience in Rushaga, followed by a safari experience in Queen Elizabeth National Park.

4 Days Gorilla Habituation and Queen Elizabeth Safari at a Glance

Day Activity Overnight
Day 1 Kampala/Entebbe–Queen Elizabeth National Park Queen Elizabeth
Day 2 Queen Elizabeth Safari–Transfer to Bwindi Rushaga Rushaga
Day 3 Gorilla Habituation Experience in Rushaga Rushaga
Day 4 Rushaga–Kampala/Entebbe

This itinerary can also be adjusted depending on whether you are arriving from Kigali, Kampala, or Entebbe.

Day 1: Kampala or Entebbe to Queen Elizabeth National Park

Your safari begins with an early morning departure from Kampala or Entebbe. Travel southwest toward Queen Elizabeth National Park, passing through Uganda’s countryside and the foothills of the Rwenzori Mountains.

After arriving in the park, enjoy an afternoon game drive. Queen Elizabeth National Park is home to elephants, buffaloes, Uganda kob, warthogs, hippos, and numerous bird species. Depending on the area and season, you may also encounter lions and leopards. The afternoon game drive provides your first opportunity to experience Uganda’s savanna wildlife before settling into your lodge.

Day 2: Queen Elizabeth Safari and Transfer to Rushaga

Wake up early for a morning game drive when wildlife activity is often high. You may encounter elephants, buffaloes, antelopes, and other wildlife as your guide explores the park’s tracks.

After the game drive, return for breakfast before continuing toward southern Bwindi. The journey takes you through the scenic southwestern Ugandan countryside, with changing landscapes as you approach the highlands surrounding Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.

Arrive in Rushaga, check into your accommodation and relax. Your guide will brief you about the following day’s Gorilla Habituation Experience, including what to expect from the forest walk and how to prepare.

Day 3: Gorilla Habituation Experience in Bwindi

This is the major highlight of the safari. After an early breakfast, proceed to the Rushaga briefing point for registration and preparation. You then enter Bwindi Impenetrable National Park accompanied by experienced trackers and guides.

Unlike standard gorilla trekking, the Gorilla Habituation Experience allows visitors to spend an extended period observing a gorilla group that is still undergoing habituation. Once the gorilla family is located, you can spend up to four hours observing their behavior. The experience can involve hiking through thick vegetation and steep terrain, and the time required to locate the gorillas can vary. After completing the experience, return to the lodge to rest and enjoy the evening.

Day 4: Rushaga to Kampala or Entebbe

After breakfast, begin the return journey toward Kampala or Entebbe. The drive provides another opportunity to enjoy the landscapes of southwestern Uganda before gradually returning to the country’s central region.

Depending on your onward travel arrangements, you can be dropped off in Kampala or at Entebbe International Airport. Your 4 Days Gorilla Habituation and Queen Elizabeth Safari ends with your arrival at your chosen drop-off point.

Why Combine Gorilla Habituation with Queen Elizabeth Safari?

This combination works particularly well for travelers who want both primates and wildlife in one short Uganda safari. The two destinations offer very different experiences.

Bwindi provides a forest-based encounter with mountain gorillas, while Queen Elizabeth National Park offers traditional African safari experiences involving game drives and diverse wildlife. Combining them means you don’t have to choose between a gorilla experience and a classic wildlife safari. It is also a good option for travelers with limited vacation time who want to experience two of Uganda’s major attractions in a single trip.

What is Included?

A typical package can include:

  • Private 4×4 safari vehicle
  • Professional English-speaking driver-guide
  • Fuel
  • Gorilla Habituation permit
  • Queen Elizabeth National Park entrance fees
  • Game drives
  • Accommodation
  • Meals according to the itinerary
  • Bottled drinking water
  • Pickup and drop-off in Kampala or Entebbe

International flights, Uganda visas, travel insurance, alcoholic drinks, tips, and personal expenses are normally excluded unless specifically included in your quotation.

Who is this safari best for?

This four-day safari is particularly suitable for:

  • Travelers with limited time in Uganda
  • Wildlife enthusiasts
  • Gorilla enthusiasts
  • Photographers
  • First-time visitors to Uganda
  • Travelers who want to combine primates and wildlife
  • Visitors looking for a short but varied Uganda safari

Because the itinerary involves considerable road travel, travelers should also be comfortable with long-distance transfers.

When is the best time to take this safari?

The safari can be undertaken throughout the year. However, travel conditions and wildlife experiences vary between seasons.

For gorilla habituation, forest conditions can affect hiking conditions and the difficulty of the experience. Queen Elizabeth National Park also changes seasonally, influencing vegetation and wildlife viewing.

Rather than choosing dates based only on weather, it is better to consider your priorities, budget, and preferred travel period when planning the safari.
