A 10 Days Gorilla Habituation with a Uganda Safari gives travelers time to experience Uganda beyond a single gorilla activity. The journey combines the extended gorilla experience in Bwindi with some of the country’s most rewarding wildlife and primate destinations.
Rather than rushing from one attraction to another, this itinerary allows you to experience Murchison Falls, Kibale Forest, Queen Elizabeth National Park, and Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in one journey.
The highlight comes in southern Bwindi, where you spend an extended period observing a habituated gorilla family. The rest of the safari adds chimpanzees, savannah wildlife, forests, crater landscapes, and the dramatic scenery for which Uganda is known.

The route can be adjusted according to your arrival point, accommodation preferences, and flight schedule.
Day 1: Entebbe or Kampala to Murchison Falls
Your safari begins with an early departure from Kampala or Entebbe toward Murchison Falls National Park in northwestern Uganda. The journey takes you through rural landscapes and agricultural communities before reaching Uganda’s largest national park.
After arriving at the park, you continue toward your lodge and have time to settle in. Depending on your arrival time, you may have an opportunity for an afternoon activity before returning to the lodge for dinner.
Day 2: Murchison Falls Game Drive and Boat Cruise
Rise early for a morning game drive when wildlife activity is often high. The savannah plains provide opportunities to encounter elephants, buffaloes, giraffes, antelopes, and other wildlife. With luck, you may also encounter lions or other predators.
Later, take a boat cruise along the Victoria Nile toward the base of Murchison Falls. The cruise provides a different perspective of the park, with opportunities to see hippos, crocodiles, and animals gathering along the riverbanks.
Day 3: Murchison Falls to Kibale Forest
After breakfast, leave Murchison Falls and travel south toward Kibale National Park. The landscape gradually changes from open savannah to greener agricultural areas and forested countryside.
Kibale is one of Uganda’s most important destinations for primate experiences and will be the base for your next major activity. After arriving, check into your lodge and prepare for the following day’s chimpanzee experience.
Day 4: Chimpanzee Trekking in Kibale
Today you explore Kibale Forest in search of chimpanzees. After a briefing, you enter the forest with experienced trackers and rangers. Chimpanzees can be active and unpredictable, making the experience different from watching animals on an open savannah. As you walk through the forest, you may also encounter other primates and a variety of forest birds.
Depending on your package and timing, the afternoon can include a visit to Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary, where local guides introduce visitors to the area’s wildlife, vegetation, and community-based conservation initiatives.
Day 5: Kibale to Queen Elizabeth National Park
After breakfast, continue south toward Queen Elizabeth National Park. The journey takes you through the foothills of the Rwenzori Mountains and into one of Uganda’s most diverse wildlife areas.
After checking into your lodge, you can enjoy an afternoon game drive. The park supports elephants, buffaloes, antelopes, hippos, and numerous bird species, while some areas are also known for their tree-climbing lions.
Day 7: Queen Elizabeth to Bwindi
After breakfast, leave Queen Elizabeth National Park and travel toward Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. The route can pass through the scenic southwestern highlands, with terraced hills and small communities appearing along the way.
You eventually reach the Rushaga area, where the Gorilla Habituation Experience takes place. After checking into your lodge, your guide will brief you about the following day’s forest experience. An early night is recommended because the next morning begins early.
Day 8: Gorilla Habituation Experience in Rushaga
This is the central experience of your 10 Days Gorilla Habituation with a Uganda Safari. After breakfast, you head to the Rushaga briefing point before entering Bwindi Forest.
The Gorilla Habituation Experience provides up to four hours with a habituated gorilla family once the group has been located. The extended time allows you to observe behavior that may not be possible during a shorter gorilla trekking experience. You may watch gorillas feeding, resting, moving through vegetation, communicating, or interacting with other members of the family. The experience also provides an insight into the conservation process involved in gradually familiarizing wild gorillas with human presence.
After the forest experience, return to your lodge and enjoy a well-earned rest.
Day 9: Bwindi to Lake Mburo National Park
After breakfast, leave Bwindi and begin the journey toward Lake Mburo National Park. The landscape changes once again as the heavily forested hills give way to rolling countryside and open grasslands. Lake Mburo is known for wildlife including zebras, impalas, eland, buffaloes, and giraffes.
Depending on your arrival time, you can enjoy an afternoon game drive or another suitable park activity.
Day 10: Lake Mburo and Return to Entebbe
Your last morning can include a short game drive or another activity such as a nature walk or horseback riding, depending on your interests and departure schedule. Lake Mburo provides a relaxed final wildlife experience before you leave southwestern Uganda.
After the activity, continue toward Kampala or Entebbe. If you have a late international flight, your guide can arrange the transfer to Entebbe International Airport. Your ten-day Uganda safari ends here.
