If you've previously visited Rwanda or plan to visit soon, there's something special in store for you! This is a 4 days wildlife safari to Akagera National Park, Rwanda's sole wildlife park located in the east of African continent.

The package includes well-planned movement, activities, lodging and meals. In a 4 days duration, all activities in the park and nearby settlements will take place, including a game drive, boat excursion on Lake Ihema and cultural adventure. The big cats can only be found in Akagera National Park, which is located in Rwanda's eastern region. The journey begins and ends in Kigali, Rwanda.

Detailed safari

Day 1: Kigali city tour and transfer to Akagera national park

A professional safari guide will gladly welcome you for an experience to this country's only Savannah Park upon your safe arrival at Kigali International Airport or at a hotel in Kigali. The tour will begin with an initial meeting and a taste of African coffee/juice, followed by magnificent 2-3 hours’ drive to Akagera National Park in Rwanda's eastern region.

There will be photography and lunch stop en route, followed by an afternoon arrival at your lodge for refreshment, dinner, optional activities and a restful slumber. The journey to Akagera National Park is really breathtaking, with undulating hills, African-style buildings and bustling villages.

Day 2: Day game drive and afternoon boat trip on Lake Ihema

Your day begins with a delicious breakfast meal, followed by a fantastic game drive around the park. Seeing the creatures of your choice in the woods is not guaranteed, but it is conceivable on a lucky day. Warthogs, oribis, buffaloes, elephants, rhinos, leopards, and lions are just a few of the residents you might see throughout the 3-4 hour trip. After the game drive, take a break for lunch before heading out on an afternoon boat excursion.

A boat ride on Lake Ihema in the afternoon. This lasts about two hours and includes views of tranquil waters, aquatic birds, hippos, and crocodiles. You'll then return to the lodge for dinner and a restful siesta.

Day 3: Cultural experience and evening game drive

You will visit one of the communities living around Akagera National Park after breakfast on daybreak. The time you spend with these locals is stimulating because you get to connect with them, hear their tales, wander around the town and participate in a variety of activities.

Following the cultural adventure, you will enjoy a lunch break before embarking on a sunset game drive, where you will have the opportunity to see nocturnal hunters and a few grazers. Hippos, leopards, lions, hyenas, and other creatures that like the night cover include hippos, leopards, lions, hyenas, and others. You'll then return to the lodge for refreshments, dinner, and an overnight stay.

Day 4: Return to Kigali

Upon sunrise, have a relaxed breakfast meal at the lodge and thereafter get off for a transfer to Kigali International Airport. On arrival, you will first have an optional tour in the city, visiting local markets to purchase a few souvenirs and shopping in modern malls. Lunch will be in the heart of Kigali city, followed by a visit to the Genocide Memorial centre in case you didn’t visit on first day. From here, the driver-guide will drop you at the preferred place - hotel or the airport.
