It is one of the highest peaks among the eight volcanic mountains in the Virunga mountain ranges. Mount Karisimbi is part of the Virunga Conservation Area in Volcanoes National Park. It is strategically located at the border of Rwanda and Congo. At the top of the mountain, you will have spectacular views of the beautiful sites of Rwanda and Congo. Your hiking safari will begin and end in Kigali the capital of Rwanda. Let us take you through the details of the itinerary.
Day 1: Arrival and transfer to Volcanoes National Park
Day 2: Reach Mount Karisimbi and Departure
Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport, you will be picked up by our driver guide. He will then brief you about what to expect on your 2 days Mount Karisimbi hiking safari. You will then start your 3-hour journey to Volcanoes National Park. On arrival at the park, you will check into the lodge for lunch. In the afternoon you may take a cultural tour at Ibyi’wacu cultural village. This cultural encounter will introduce you to the culture of the people of Rwanda, their values, norms, and ceremonies. You will also be entertained by the cultural dances and songs. In the evening you will head back to your lodge for dinner and overnight.
Meals: Lunch and Dinner
Early morning immediately after breakfast, you will be park offices for a briefing on hiking. At the offices, you will hire hiking gear, and porters to carry your luggage if you want. The hike to the top of Mount Karisimbi will then begin at the base of Volcanoes National Park. The hiking process will take you over 7 hours to reach the summit of Mount Karisimbi. While on your hiking adventure, you will come across many different species of birds and primates. Some of these birds include Rwenzori batis, and Archer’s ground robin, among others.
Primates include the vervet monkey, black and white colobus monkeys, and olive baboons to mention but a few. On reaching the summit of Mount Karisimbi, you will have splendid views of the different vegetation zones of the park. You will also have a view of the Virunga National Park in Congo. After a photo moment and devouring your packed lunch, you will return to the park offices. From here our driver guide you and transfers you back to Kigali for your departure. By the time it clocks evening, you will be already at the airport just in time for your flight back home. This will mark the end of your amazing 2 days Mount Karisimbi hiking safari.
