Overview

Our 7 days Rwanda tour is a fusion of city excursion, game viewing, chimpanzee trekking and mountain gorilla safari in remarkable Rwanda to embrace and have an insightful experience of this majestic country as well as its phenomenal diversity.

For the 7 days in Rwanda, we assimilate visits to Nyungwe forest National Park in the extreme south-west of the country, the stunning Volcanoes National Park in the north-west of Rwanda, the magnificent Akagera National Park in the Eastern, the jaw-dropping Lake Kivu and Kigali city where the safari begins and ends.

Detailed itinerary

Day 1: Kigali: Arrival and drive to Akagera National Park, Eastern Rwanda

As visitors arrive at Kigali International Airport or meet the private safari driver at the hotel in the Capital, they are transferred to Akagera National Park. This comes after pleasantries and introductions are finalized. Travellers first set out on a City excursion to the popular Kimironko food market, make a stop at one of the art & Craft Centers, to mention but a few. Proceed to Akagera National Park, with arrival being in the afternoon for Lunch.

Day 2: Akagera National Park-game viewing adventure and Lake Ihema boat ride

Receive that fresh flurry of energy early in the morning with a hearty breakfast, then start the game drive where Burchell’s zebras, giant elands, Masai giraffes, Defassa waterbucks, blue monkeys, bush babies, Eastern black Rhinos, Oribis, olive baboons, Leopards, black and white colobus monkeys, Hippos, African bush elephants and many others are spotted.

After watching different animal activities, get back to the Lodge for lunch and later enjoy the Lake Ihema Boat ride for an introduction to more of what the Park offers in terms of large schools of Hippos, crocodiles as well as the lazing African bush elephants, without missing out water/wetland bird species. After a thrilling and tiring day, return back to the Wilderness Safari Lodge for dinner and sleep.

Day 3: To Nyungwe Forest National Park - the canopy walk

Head to the stunning Nyungwe Forest National Park after relishing a tasty breakfast at a Safari Lodge in Akagera National Park. You can’t afford to miss-out on the rich wildlife species while exiting. Leave with a lunch box because a picnic lunch will be enjoyed in the jungle, followed by briefing at Uwinka Visitor Center.

Later start the canopy walk where countless bird species, several primates and a number of butterfly species will be identified.

Day 4: Chimpanzee tracking then the transfer to Lake Kivu

Be prepared for the chimpanzee trekking experience in Nyungwe Forest after a delicious breakfast at the Forest Lodge. The chimpanzee trek starts with a transfer to the Park Offices for pre-tracking registration as well as briefing. This is followed by grouping of travellers into the two chimpanzee communities that call Nyungwe Forest as well as adjacent Cyamudongo forest home.

With a lot of excitement venture into the forest and hike for 1-3 hours while searching to the chimpanzees, then spend one hour with them as they go about their daily activities in form of munching on vegetation, playing, grooming each other, taking naps and copulating. Continue to the picturesque Lake Kivu after your tasty lunch and check-in at the Lakeside Resort or Hotel.

Day 5: Boat ride and transfer to Volcanoes National Park

Get the chance to experience the beauty and seclusion of Lake Kivu during our 7 days Rwanda Tour. Be served a delicious breakfast and set out for the Lake Kivu Boat ride. Stop at some of the beautiful Islands to watch birds, learn about coffee growing until harvesting and processing. Re-fuel from the boat ride with lunch at the Island and start the journey to Volcanoes National Park.

Day 6: Volcanoes National Park: gorilla trekking and Gorilla Guardian Village tours

Very early in the morning relish a delicious breakfast and then head out for the Volcanoes gorilla trekking adventure. Begin this adventure with briefing at the Park Headquarters on the rules and protocols on how to go about the activity, expectations and history of gorilla tourism. After getting allocated to the gorilla group, travellers hop onto the safari vehicle for the drive to the trailhead. A total of 2-5 hours will be spent in the forest and this also includes the one hour of viewing and photographing the mountain gorillas.

After lunch, we visit the Gorilla Guardian Village, take a stroll to learn about the activities of traditional through preparation of local cuisines, banana beer brewing, and preparations of herbal medicine, handcraft making and climaxed by traditional dance performance by the Intore Dance Troupe. After this fun-filled day, visitors are driven back to the Lodge for dinner and rest.

Day 7: To Kigali City: Time for Departure

This is the last day of our 7 days Rwanda Tour and starts with a tasty breakfast at the Lodge and later choose between Dian Fossey gravesite hike and Golden Monkey Tracking. Resort at the Park Headquarters and the time spent in the forest depends on the chosen activity. Proceed to Kigali City and take a flight back home after this unforgettable Rwanda Holiday.
