17 Days Primate Trekking and Wildlife Safari in East Africa

Overview

As far as the east is from the west, all it takes is a 17-day safari to discover the primates, birds, culture, and mammals of this magical land in the east of Africa. East Africa is home to one of the world's most diverse flora and fauna collections. Rwanda, the Land of a Thousand Hills, Tanzania, the Land of Kilimanjaro and Serengeti, and Uganda, the Pearl of Africa, are among the locations.

You will participate in activities like as a game drive, a boat cruise, birding, gorilla trekking, primate trekking, a cultural stroll, and more. Tree climbing lions, leopards, Wildebeests, Mountain Gorillas, Chimpanzees, cheery golden monkeys, shoebill stock, and African Elephants all call this place home. The journey begins in Kigali, Rwanda and concludes in Arusha, Tanzania.

Detailed trip

Day 1: Arrival

After arriving at Kigali International airport, meet and get briefed by our company driver / guide as you enjoy a glass of juice. Learn about the Republic of Rwanda, its stunning scenery and cool-weather.

After checking in and dropping your luggage at your hotel, take a city tour that includes stops to the Genocide Memorial center, local markets and the city's fast-growing suburbs. Lunch in town will be followed by a sunset return to the lodge for supper and overnight.

Day 2: Kigali city tour. Travel to Volcanoes National Park

After breakfast, go shopping in Kigali's bustling center before taking a lovely journey to the north, with your eyes set on the undulating hills, plantations, and scattered homesteads. Gorillas, golden monkeys, and other primates, flora, and forest creatures will greet you in the misty rich Volcanoes forest.

Arrive and check-in at the lodge for lunch and refreshment as you wait for the next day's activities. If you're still up for it, spend the evening at Dian Fossey's research center to learn more about gorillas. Retire on bed with dinner and a peaceful nap.

Day 3: Gorilla trekking and Musanze caves exploration

Start your day with a hearty breakfast at the lodge, and then drive to the park headquarters with all of your trekking gear for a pre-trekking briefing, which includes registration, assignment to a gorilla family to visit and explanations of the trekking dos and don'ts. As you stroll through the forest, pay close attention to where the apes were last seen before moving on to other regions of the jungle, where you might see monkeys, birds, and forest mammals.

The walk lasts between 1 and 7 hours, including an additional 1 hour for photography and viewing the silverbacks, young stars, and moms’ peculiar habits. Afterword’s have a Lunch break, and then zeal off the day after a visit to Musanze caves; about 2kms from the park. Have a goodnight after dinner at the lodge.

Day 4: Golden Monkey trekking and community adventure

Begin the day with a revitalizing cup of coffee at the lodge, then proceed to the park headquarters for a pre-trekking briefing and registration. Golden monkeys are one of the most gorgeous primates on the planet, and they're also one of the most energetic and exciting. These spend their time hopping from one tree branch to the next and you'll need to be very alert to get the best photos and notice their unique qualities, which an experienced ranger guide will point out.

After that, return to the lodge for lunch and some refreshments before having some fun and an exciting experience with the communities that live around the park, dancing, walking, and playing with them. Dinner and a relaxing snooze are the perfect way to end the day.

Day 5: Volcanoes National Park to Queen Elizabeth National Park in Uganda

Check out of the lodge after breakfast for a transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park in Uganda, a true medley of wonders that is home to the rare climbing lions. Admire the zig-zag pictorial view of the landscape, the flourishing plantations, and the scenic Rwanda - Uganda boarder post, where you will verify your documents and have lunch afterwards, as you travel to Queen Elizabeth National Park. Arrive at the lodge at sunset for refreshing drinks, delicious meals and a relaxing nap.

Day 6: Game drive and boat cruise

Begin your day with a sunrise game drive across the park, keeping an eye out for prey and predators returning to their natural habitats to graze, hunt, or return to their territory. The game viewing excursion lasts about 3-4 hours, with possibility of seeing lion prides, leopards, Cape buffalos, African elephants, warthogs, Uganda Kobs, waterbucks and other animals. Following that, savor a bush breakfast followed by a hearty lunch.

In the afternoon, you will have a boat trip on the Kazinga channel for roughly 2-3 hours, during which you will be able to take photos, observe hippos, crocodiles, and mammals, as well as quench their thirst on the lakeshore. End your day with a relaxing meal.

Day 7: Queen Elizabeth National Park to Kibale Forest National Park - crater tours

After a delicious breakfast at the Lodge, check out for a trip to Kibale Forest National Park, which is home to over 13 primate species, including chimps, white and black Columbus monkeys, grey-checked monkeys and more.

It's a scenic trip with views of the stunning countryside, Ankole Long-horned cattle, and plantations on a lucky day. Arrive in Fort Portal city for lunch, then go on a crater tour with trek to top of the world in the evening. Drive to your lodge for dinner and an overnight stay at sunset.

Day 8: Chimpanzee trekking and Bigodi swamp experience

Look into the depths of humanity, in chimpanzees living and enjoying an unspoiled Jungle, a haven that is important to them. The ranger guides at the park headquarters conduct a pre-trekking briefing, which is followed by a primate trekking exercise. It is done on foot and lasts between 1 and 5 hours, during which time you will see various primates from the over 13 species present, including white and black Columbus monkeys, olive baboons, grey checked monkeys, and more.

Chimpanzees have roughly 98.9% human-like DNA, over 25 vocalizations and well-built bodies. You'll have an hour to snap photos and learn about primates and chimp life. After that, you'll return for a lunch break, followed by a swamp trek at Bigodi Swamp, a communal project involving locals, olive baboons, birds, and more. Afterword’s, return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 9: Kibale forest to Entebbe airport. Fly out to Nairobi, Kenya

After an early morning breakfast, you will travel for 5-6 hours to Entebbe International Airport for a flight to Nairobi, Kenya. Lunch will be enroute, as your eyes take in the breathtaking countryside sightings, bustling villages and diverse plantations.

Upon arrival in Nairobi, our Kenyan company representative / guide will gladly greet and brief you before transporting you to the resort for refreshment, dinner and overnight.

Day 10: Nairobi to Lake Nakuru national park

From a relaxing bath to a delicious breakfast, your day begins in style. Following that, you will check out of the resort and be transported to Lake Nakuru, a haven for pink flamingos and hundreds of bird species, not to mention the intriguing terrain and wildlife. You'll have a photo break in the Great Rift Valley, followed by lunch on the way. Arrive in the evening and check-in at your lodge for a rest and an optional activity, followed by dinner and a relaxing snooze.

Day 11: Game drive and bird watching

Wake up to a pleasant 3-4 hours’ game viewing experience after a relaxed slumber. Smile and learn about the numerous prey and predators at large, including lions, hippos, crocodiles, zebras, elephants, cape buffaloes and more, even if you don't have a territorial right to meddle with what happens in the environment.

Return to the resort for lunch before embarking on a rewarding birdwatching tour along Lake Nakuru's shoreline, where you'll see pink flamingos, kingfishers, water ducks, and more. You'll return to the lodge for dinner and an overnight stay at sunset.

Day 12: Lake Nakuru to Masai Mara reserve

After breakfast, go on a one-hour guided nature walk at one of the approved trailheads, taking photos and learning about the many plant and bird species. After the adventure, check out of the lodge and go to the Masai Mara Reserve, passing through the Great Rift Valley, plantations, and friendly locals. Lunch is served en route before arriving at your resort for dinner and a relaxing nap at dusk.

Day 13: Full Day game drive

This day will be devoted to a full-day outdoor excursion, including a bush breakfast and a picnic lunch. The Masai wildlife reserve is said to have the highest concentration of lions and predators on the African continent. Many other mammals, primates, and birds can be found eating, hunting or grazing.

Zebras, wildebeest, zebras, hyenas, cape Buffaloes, African elephants, warthogs, giraffes, several antelope species and more are among the many residents to keep an eye out for. Return to the lodge to rest and relax at the end of the day, followed by dinner and a relaxing nap.

Day 14: Transfer from Masai Mara to Serengeti national Park

At dawn, you will depart Maasai Mara National Park for Serengeti National Park in Tanzania's northern region; the largest country in east Africa. The road is distinguished by undulating hills, lush foliage, and African-style houses, not to mention the lovely Kenya-Tanzania border post, where you will clear customs and conduct some verification. After that, take a break and eat lunch before driving to the park, where you can see the animals, possibly some primates on a lucky day, and admire the scenery. Arrive late in the evening to the lodge for refreshments, dinner, and overnight.

Day 15: Game viewing and Masai people

Start you day at sunrise with a rewarding 3-4-hour game drive around the savannah grass land of Serengeti national park. As you see the rolling hills, birds, plants and mammals, you can chance the sight and sound of; wildebeests, lions, leopards, African elephants, cape Buffaloes, Zebras, giraffes and more. The heart is gifted with a delicious bush breakfast meal, followed by a return to the lodge for refreshment and lunch.

After lunch, you will have a quality time with some of the most exciting people on earth; the Maasai people, learning of their lives as herdsmen, enjoying the local dance, clad on their traditional attire, and a village walk; to the farms, crawls and the Manyattas. After the village experience, return to the lodge with a sunset drive for refreshment, dinner and a peaceful overnight slumber.

Day 16: Transfer to Ngorongoro crater

Begin your day with a hearty breakfast at the resort, followed by a transfer to Ngorongoro crater, the world's largest terrestrial caldera. There will be an en route layover at Ngorongoro crater, where the fossils of people thought to be the earth's first occupants were discovered. The journey continues from there, with stunning vistas of the terrain, verdant plantations, and scattered homesteads. You'll arrive at the lodge for lunch and then go on a crater walk in the afternoon.

At the summit, you have an opportunity to see animal hideouts, as well as a spectacular landscape, animals, and flora, as well as a beautiful sunset. You'll return to the lodge for dinner and a relaxing snooze after a fun day.

Day 17: Departure

After enjoying a mouthwatering breakfast at the lodge, you will checkout for a transfer to Arusha Tanzania. On arrival, you will have lunch, a brief city tour before proceeding to your lodge for dinner and a peaceful nap.
